Welcome to Ms Blissness, the blog of a South African girl currently roaming the world with my fiance, Peter! Thanks for stopping by our little piece of travel paradise for the wanderlusters, dreamers, and free spirits.
“What we have here is a dreamer, someone out of touch with reality, when she jumped she probably thought she would fly”
I absolutely love this quote because I think it is the epitome of who I am. I’ve always been a dreamer, someone who doesn’t pay much attention to “the way it should be.” I grew up never wanting an office job but not being entirely sure about what I did want to do. You know those career day questions in school – well I’ve wanted to be everything under the sun. From a dancer to a jockey, an air-hostess to a tour guide, and a professional ice-skater to a hotel owner (I never understood how much money you needed for this one), I’ve wanted to do it all at some stage in my life. The one consistent – I’ve always been passionate about travel.
I’m fortunate enough to have grown up travelling quite a bit with my parents, and we still travel together today. My parents did a three month Euro trip with me when I was 18 months old, and my mom is convinced that this is the reason for my extreme wanderlust. But it’s probably a combination of that and my parents love for travel. I grew up with the travel bug.
In 2012, after completing my honours degree in Marketing Management, I was seriously considering a life of travel. I had no intention of finding a job! And then I met my boyfriend, now fiance, Peter! He was still completing his studies and committed to building a solid career. I spent the next 4 years in and out of jobs, trying to find my perfect fit but my heart was still intent on travelling!
In May 2017 we left South Africa with the intention of giving this travel life a go. We spent just over a year living in London, using it as a base to explore a lot of Europe. We both had full-time jobs and were travelling as and when we could. London gave us opportunities that we would never have had back home. I started my blog – Ms Blissness – a little over a year ago as a way to document our travels and share our experiences with family and friends, fellow travellers and like-minded people. Ultimately it’s about living a life of bliss – building a life that you desire and one that makes you truly happy.
I had wanted to work online/remotely long before we left South Africa because, of course, it would give me a lot more freedom to travel and to work in my own time. I finally made it happen while we were living in London. As of March 2018 I have been working remotely as a writer. My blog helped me to get my first job and I’m still working for the same company almost a year later. Now my passion is with my blog. I’m still not close to where I want to be and I’m learning everyday. I hope to keep expanding and improving on it. But ultimately I hope to spread a lot of love and light through our travel photos and stories.
So what’s next for us?
We returned to South Africa for a few months towards the end of 2018 and as of 2019 we will be travelling permanently – well for as long as we feel like it. Peter is now also working remotely, so we are going to use this time to explore new places, without being tied down to one specific destination. We also have a wedding to plan, so the timing is perfect.
But, while it may seem like we’ve got it all figured out, that couldn’t be any further from the truth. We still don’t know exactly what we want to do or where we want to end up. I have this constant struggle between wanting to travel but missing home and my precious family and friends. My heart will always be in South Africa. As much as I love travelling something will always be drawing me back home.
For now though we are making the most of this opportunity that we have been given to travel. If we hadn’t chosen this life, we wouldn’t have experienced a Santorini sunset, gone parasailing in Mauritius, spent a few weeks exploring Portugal with my parents, or spent over a year living in London – an invaluable experience.
The great thing about travel is that anyone can do it! It can be scary and seem impossible, but it’s really not. If you are willing to make a few sacrifices and take a few leaps of faith, you can achieve anything. We don’t have a trust fund or inheritance. We’re on a journey of learning what it takes to make this life of travel happen. We still don’t have it all figured out and we don’t know where we will be a year or even a few months from now. But we hope to inspire more people to follow their dreams and explore this beautiful planet that is home to us all.
We enjoying living in the moment and taking each day as it comes! Living in a state of bliss. I believe that true bliss comes in the form of love. Loving everyone around you, loving what you do, loving who you are, what you are, loving yourself and loving God! The best thing you can do for yourself is to live a life that is fulfilling and do all things that make you happy – And this is when you experience love in its purest form!
Committed to spreading love and light in the world. “Everything is temporary but love, LOVE outlives us all”
Love and light always
