• Parasailing in Mauritius

The Best Spot for Parasailing in Mauritius

I’ve wanted to parasail for as long as I can remember. As an adrenaline junkie and ocean lover I couldn’t think of anything more perfect than gliding through the sky with the sea below you. And perfect it was. Parasailing in Mauritius was one of the best experiences – something that both Peter and I absolutely loved! The only downside was that it all happened far too quickly. We could have easily stayed for hours up there in the air. We spent a magical week in Mauritius with my family at the beginning of the year. One of the highlights for me was Parasailing. We stayed in Grand Baie but…

The Best Place To Stay In Mauritius: A Week In Paradise

Ah Mauritius – what a dream!! Affectionately known as paradise on Earth, Mauritius is a place that I’ve been wanting to visit forever. My dream came true when we spent a week in Mauritius back in January. I mean the picturesque beaches, warm oceans, array of sea life and the soft, white beach sand, what more could a beach lover like myself ask for?? Although Mauritius is a relatively unheard of and obscure destination to international tourists, it’s a common holiday destination for South Africans. Located off the Southeast coast of Africa, it’s only about a 4 hour flight. But having lived in South Africa all my life, the first…

Robberg Hike: Guide to Hiking the Robberg Nature Reserve

You know when somebody asks you if you could go anywhere in the world where would you go? Well I don’t have one specific answer because I want to go everywhere but the Garden Route would be in my top five every time. It may sound biased seen as I am South African, but hey, the heart wants what it wants! And right in the middle of the Garden route, a few minutes drive outside of Plettenberg Bay, you will find Robberg Nature Reserve – one of the most beautiful places in South Africa. I’ve been visiting the Garden Route with my family since I was a kid. But I…

Garden Route Itinerary by a local: Everything you need to know

The garden route is one of my most favourite destinations in the world. I’m from Cape Town and grew up going on family holidays all across the Garden Route every year. Sometimes even two or three times a year. Since the garden route holds a special place in my heart and is a destination that I’ve visited too many times to count, I thought I would put together this recommended garden route itinerary. The Garden Route stretches for 300 km from Mossel Bay in the Western Cape to Storms River in the Eastern Cape and is one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in the world. When I was…

  • Vilanculos to Bazaruto

Vilanculos to Bazaruto: Spending the day on Bazaruto Island

A sanctuary for the soul – that’s the best way to describe Bazaruto island. Just think unspoiled beach, silky soft sand, large sand dunes and a bountiful of marine life; Bazaruto is a near pristine tropical paradise. It is one of the five islands found in the Bazaruto archipelago. The other four being Benguerra, Magaruque, Bangue, and Santa Carolina. At 37 km long and 7 km wide Bazaruto is the largest. Thanks to its nearby coral reefs and an array of tropical fish, Bazaruto has been rated as one of the best scuba diving destinations in the world! On my recent girls trip to Vilanculos we took a day trip…

  • Kruger Park Walking Trails

Kruger Park Walking Trails: Mathikithi trail

The Kruger Park Walking trails are three-night guided walking tours which include a Wilderness experience like no other. From exploring areas in the park that are virtually untouched by people to learning new things, it’s one of the most surreal, intense, and special safari experiences possible. When Peter and I knew that we would be back in South Africa for a few months, we jumped at the opportunity to join the Mathikithi trail with four of our closest friends. The Kruger Park has a number of different trails to choose from, but we opted for this one since it’s close to the Satara camp. Also, we only booked a couple…

Vilanculos Beach Lodge: Guide for a girls trip to remember

Have you ever been to Mozambique? I’ve been four times now and each time I fall more and more in love with one of the most underrated countries in Africa. Mozambique is a popular destination for South Africans since the countries border each other. But to many international tourists, Mozambique is still just a place on the map. I first visited this paradise on a family trip when I was 14. We stayed in Tofo which is a coastal town in Southeastern Mozambique. We loved it so much that we went back to the same spot a few years later. Recently I got to experience a different part of Mozambique…

    Knysna Attractions: A dreamy destination

Knysna is one of my favourite places in the world. The Garden route holds a special place in my heart and is a place that I will continue to visit forever. I grew up in Cape Town – well for my formative, primary school years and we used to holiday in the Garden route at least once a year. When I was 12 we moved to Pretoria but we visited Cape Town often and still took our annual Garden Route trip. We have stayed in and explored so many of the areas in this part of the country multiple times. And nothing quite lives up to the Knysna attractions. The…

  • Bloukrans Bridge

Bloukrans Bungee Experience: The world’s highest bridge bungee

So, I’m somewhat of an adrenaline junkie and bungee jumping is, of course, one of the most extreme sports ever invented. Naturally, I had an inkling to do it and there was no better place than the Bloukrans bungee experience. During one of our recent family trips to Cape Town (my home town) and Knysna – one of my favourite places in the world and a place that I’ve been going to for years, I decided to jump off a bridge – attached to a rope, obviously! About the Bloukrans Bungee Jump Found between Nature’s Valley and Storms river, you will find the Bloukrans bungee bridge – the highest commercial…

  • Mabalingwe Nature Reserve

A weekend at Mabalingwe Nature Reserve

Mabalingwe Nature Reserve is one of South Africa’s many breathtaking private game reserves, and is located 38 km West of Bela Bela in Limpopo province. Covering more than 12,500 hectares of soft rolling hills, it’s home to 36 wildlife species, including some of the country’s most loved animals; hippos, elephants, rhino, giraffes, sables, and hyenas. For bird lovers, there are more than 250 species of birds to be spotted. It’s one of the more low key game reserves, especially when compared to the Kruger National Park and Pilansberg. Mabalingwe Nature Reserve is the perfect destination for a quiet escape from the city. Unlike the more high-profile and albeit “touristy” safari…
